A huge world-class library project was first announced back in 2016, during ‘a year of reading’. The team behind the new central library announced on Tuesday the state-of-the-art building could open within six months.

The seven storey library aims to become the largest cultural centre in the Middle East and North Africa region. When complete, it will house more than 4.5 million books, including printed and e-books, and have several areas for events, activities, education and cultural festivals, as well as venues for exhibitions, and a 500-seat lecture theatre.
